Sculpting with the Mancub

So my kids have this cool, kinetic sand they use to sculpt and make all kinds of things. As I’m trying to put a little bit of dinner together one night last week, all of the sudden I hear an unexpected declaration come from the dining room. Turns out I am NOT allowed to enter the dining room by order of my youngest mancub. Playing along as dads tend to do, I tried to “sneak” into his unlikely lair only to be admonished with as much feigned aggravation as a giggling little boy can muster. Shrugging my shoulders, I returned to the tasks at hand, but “accidently” kept looking into the dining room as I rattled pans on the stove or put stuff in the dishwasher. With furled eyebrow and the sporadic appearance of his tongue sticking out the corner of his mouth, I saw my son making and remaking what started out as a clump of kinetic sand into one of his favorite of God’s creatures…a brontosaurus. The process must have taken like 20 minutes, but slowly, what was clumpy and formless became something quite beautiful (yes, I’m biased). Then, by his spoken word, I was allowed to enter his pretend workshop, that I might admire what he worked so diligently to create. He was proud and because of that, I was proud.

Made me wonder if God did the same thing (the furled brow and all) as He majestically made Adam and Eve way back when or as He has made and remade portions of my own sinful life these past two score plus an undisclosed amount of years. 🙂 One thing I do know…just as my son reveled in the outcome of his kinetic sand-filled efforts, the Bible says God feels the same way about you and me as His creation, no matter how many times we need or ask Him to remake or refine us.

God does love you, my friends, whoever you are…for the Bible tells me so…
